Mother's Day 2020: A Mother's Day Like No Other

This year's #MothersDay celebration will be different from previous ones as COVID-19 has kept us from physically showing our love for one another. However, given that one of the traits that Filipinos are known for is having close family ties, we will always find ingenious ways to show admiration and appreciation to our Nanays. Diving into the internet to look for ways to make your mom happy this Mother’s Day and asking around using communication apps available, here are 5 ways how you can celebrate.

Give them flowers

Your nanay, like most women, loves to receive flowers. Coupled with a handwritten letter telling her how loved she is will surely make her feel special. Just be sure to keep a tissue, handkerchief or towel handy just in case.

Good thing there are several flower shops that offers online orders and delivery. Try it now and see how your mom will react.

Give her what she always wanted

Aside from the flowers and a heartfelt letter, giving her the thing that she has always wanted will surely brighten her day. Whether it be the cooking ware that she wanted so bad, an air conditioner to make today’s hot days cooler, a washing machine, it’ll put a smile on her face.

If you are on a tight budget, you don’t really have to spend anything. Giving her your time is one of the most precious gifts that you can give to her.

Cook for her

If you are with your mom, preparing a nice meal would also be nice. A breakfast, lunch or dinner with your mom used to be hard due to your work or your mom’s busy schedule. But, now that we mostly spend time working from home due to the Enhance Community Quarantine (ECQ), you and your mom will surely enjoy sharing a meal that you prepared and talking about sweet nothings.

Depending on your cooking skills, you can cook her favorite dish or add a twist to that adobo to make it more special. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, there’s always the internet to help you out.

Phone or video call with your mom and loved ones

Setting up a phone or video conference with you and your loved ones this Mother’s Day is the closest thing to a face-to-face celebration nowadays. Good thing there are several free apps out there that can help you make this happen. Surprise your mom with a video call in Facebook Messenger and if you’re up to it, invite her closest friends so they can catch up.

Although it’s easy for you to arrange a video call, it can be a bit tricky for your mom. Be extra patient, it’s Mother’s Day after all. :)

Help them manage their business using digital platforms

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has forced most businesses to close while an ECQ is being implemented. During this time, help your mom develop a strategy on how to use technology as a means to boost business continuity. See how you can help build a strong online presence for your mom’s business by creating a social media page on Facebook or Instagram to generate sales, use online tools so your mom can collaborate with her staff on business happenings.

You can also guide her on how to apply for a non-collateral business loan by visiting www.esquire.com.ph. During times like these, additional working capital will surely help her business overcome the challenges that COVID-19 will present.
